Bancroft School Collection (special education)
The Paul Robeson Library houses an extensive collection of archival materials about the history of the Bancroft School, the first school for special education in the United States, founded by Margaret Bancroft in 1883 in Haddonfield, New Jersey. This collection will be of interest to scholars researching pedagogy, medicine, early childhood education, disability studies, and childhood studies.
A handful of representative records from the collection have been digitized. To learn more about this collection and see a preview of photographs and administrative records that the collection contains, visit this site created by history graduate student Kieran Leo Armstrong: Bancroft School Collection: Little-Known History Close to Home.
