Welcome to the Bancroft Collection

Located within the Paul Robeson Library at the Rutgers Camden campus, the Bancroft School Collection is an extensive collection of archival materials about the history of the Bancroft School, the first school for special education in the United States.
This is a treasure trove of history of any kind for many different fields: pedagogy, medicine, early childhood education, disability studies, and childhood studies. It's an important piece of local history as well. The Paul Robeson Library invites researchers and students to explore the materials here and utilize this less well-known part of our library's collection.
If the items in the Bancroft Collection are interesting to you as a part of your potential research, you can make an appointment at the Paul Robeson Library by contacting Bart Everts, the head special collections librarian by emailing bart.everts@rutgers.edu. The library is located at 300 N. 4th Street on the Camden campus.
